During March/April 2000 I spent six weeks travelling through Kosovo as assistant to a documentary filmmaker, while at the same time sketching and gathering material for my own work.
Travelling with a KFOR press pass provided the opportunity to cover a considerable amount of the region, documenting various aspects of life in a "war zone".  I was able to witness elements of day-to-day life for Kosovo's residents in a country ravaged by war, from the bustling overpopulation of Prishtina to refugee camps and small mountain villages.
This initial (and ongoing) series of small paintings is intended to make up a record/impression of the time I spent there and a "portrait" of the situation in Kosovo during the winter/spring of 2000.
